I am a Muslim woman who, like millions of other Muslim women across the globe, chooses to wear the hijab. And the concept of the hijab, contrary to popular opinion, is actually one of the most fundamental aspects of female empowerment.
When I cover myself, I make it virtually impossible for people to judge me according to the way I look. I cannot be categorized because of my attractiveness or lack thereof. Compare this to life in today's society: We are constantly sizing one another up on the basis of our clothing, jewelry, hair and makeup. What kind of depth can there be in a world like this? Yes, I have a body, a physical manifestation upon this Earth. But it is the vessel of an intelligent mind and a strong spirit.
I suppose I don't really think about how I wear it, I just think about why. javascript:void(0)

I choose to too, and no matter how I wear it I always admire it on other people more - I suppose that's not the point, but we are all human!
I'm Christian so I don't wear a hijab. But I respect and admire those women who do. We should stand together as women to support freedom of choice, Womenpower!
Hijab is not only a Muslim concept. Look at Nuns for example. They chose to cover their heads for prayer and in public- but it's strange that when peole advocating women's rights never complain about the poor downtrodden nuns! LOL. Wearing hijab is actually a freeing experience . As well as identifying you to others as Muslim, it reminds you how you should always try and behave, and it also frees you from those bad hair days !!!
Nuns can choose to wear nothing in public if they want, but point well made. I was wondering about the bad hair day thing. Matter of fact I bought an Abiya so I can walk my dog in my nightgown if I so choose.lol
